WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?
WHAT DO WE BELEIVE?
A brief description of the philosophy of the Hare Krishna movement
All living beings are eternal spirit souls, originally belonging to the eternal spiritual world, where souls live with God, Krishna, in pure loving relationships. Due to the free will of souls to either love or disown God some have turned away from Him. For these souls, who chose not to love and serve God, He has created this temporary, material world. Here we live through life after life, with repeated birth and death, in various lifeforms such as plants, animals, humans, and demigods in correspondance with the laws of karma, until we desire to return to the eternal kingdom of God, and qualify ourselves to do so.
Only in the human form of life is this spiritual evolution possible. Therefore spiritual instructions are given to human society in the form of various reveals Scriptures such as the Vedas, the Bible, the Koran, and others. The most exhaustive spiritual wisdom is found in the Vediv Scriptures of India like Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.
The original position of the soul is eternal service, in complete spiritual bliss and knowledge, to the Supreme Lord, referred to in Vedic Scriptures as Krishna or Visnu. By practicing devotional service (bhakti-yoga) one can gradually re-awaken this dormant consciousness, known as Krishna Consciousness, by various processes such as the repeated recitation of the maha mantra: “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. When one develops love for Krishna by pure devotional service, one is freed from the laws of karma and thus returns to the spiritual world.
